Packaging Materials and Process Requirements for Metal Can External Packaging
The purpose of the external packaging of metal cans is to facilitate the entire process from the can-making workshop to the food and beverage filling workshop, making it convenient for transfer, storage, and unstacking, while avoiding product damage, moisture, rust, and external contamination during transit. Ultimately, it ensures that the performance products required by customers safely reach the food and beverage filling workshop. Below, we will specifically explain some packaging materials and process requirements:
l Wooden Pallets and Top Boards
A. Material Requirements: Use grade II hard materials with Brinell hardness of 2.5~4; wood moisture content should not exceed 20%.
B. Nail Material Requirements: Iron nails must be high-carbon flat or round spiral nails, with a penetration depth of 6~15mm. Nails with riveted structures should not protrude externally.
C. Specifications: Dimensions: 1400mm X 1100mm X 130mm, allowable deviation ±3mm, weighing approximately 30kg.
D. Appearance Requirements:
a. Knots: No knot holes or decayed knots are allowed. The average diameter of intact knots should not exceed 1/4 of the board width. Within a length of 300mm, no more than two maximum knots are allowed. Knots should not cause notches at the edges.
b. Cracks: No cracks are allowed in the middle spacer blocks. The width of the board should not exceed 1/3 of the width, and the thickness should not exceed 1/3 of the thickness.
c. Gaps: No gaps are allowed in the middle spacer blocks. The width of the board should not exceed 1/6 of the width, and the thickness should not exceed 1/3 of the thickness.
d. Decayed Wood: No decayed wood is allowed, and wood with decayed or rotten properties is not permitted.
e. Antiseptic Treatment: Wood treated with antiseptics or rot is not allowed.
f. Odor: Wood with odor is not allowed.
E. Top Board Specifications: Dimensions: 1400mm X 1100mm X 15mm, weighing approximately 4kg.
l Lining Paper
Canned body partition paper is divided into grade B and grade C flat cardboard. The specifications are 1420mm X 1120mm, or according to the required length, with a tolerance of ≤5mm in length and ≤3mm in width. Appearance requirements include a smooth, clean surface, free from dirt and debris, neutral pH, and must remain dry and moisture-resistant.
l Strapping Tape
The entire roll of strapping tape should have no wrinkles, bends, deformations, or discoloration. It should have a diagonal pattern of 7~8 lines/cm², consistent diagonally. The width should be (14.20 ± 0.1)mm, and the thickness should be ±0.01mm. It should have sufficient tensile strength to ensure secure strapping without breakage, suitable for hot melt bonding, and firm adhesion at the joints.
l Plastic Stretch Shrink Film
It should be made of biaxially stretched polyethylene film with good shrink memory performance. When wrapped around a pallet filled with empty cans, it should tightly encase the cans. It should have good impact resistance and penetration strength. Even if punctured, it should be able to stretch bidirectionally without breaking or tearing within a certain range, with a single-sided self-adhesive capability. The tightly wrapped pallet should be dustproof, waterproof, and shockproof. Material performance requirements include:
a. Longitudinal and transverse tensile elongation rate of over 200%.
b. Good puncture resistance and tear resistance.
c. Bidirectional stretchability to meet various needs.
d. Good shrinkage fastening performance.
e. Can be made into internal adhesive, external adhesive, or double-sided adhesive.
f. Meets the hygiene requirements of food packaging materials.
g. Stabilizes packaged items as a whole, reducing damage, collapse, and loose packaging during transportation.
h. Waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, ensuring that products are not damaged.
i. Mold-free, odorless, non-polluting to humans.
l Heat Shrink Film
It should shrink evenly when heated, without breaking or emitting odors.
Stacking Packaging Process Requirements
a. Empty cans should be compactly stacked without looseness, with neat and straight stacking.
b. The number of stacking layers should be reasonable to meet the needs of equipment operation and transportation.
c. The strapping should be evenly distributed, securely fastened, and without looseness.
d. The PE film should be wrapped from top to bottom, with good shrinkage and adhesion, without looseness.
